I was born on 21st of June, 1990 in a family of Armenian refugees. My parents moved to Armenia in 1988 during the anti-Armenian pogroms in Azerbaijan.

During my high school years, I was very enthusiastic about competitions in math, physics and computer science. They raised my personal confidence and interest in those subjects, and since 2005, I received first prize awards at the Armenian National Olympiads in both math and physics. In 2005, I received the “Best Student” award from the president of Armenia. I also participated and received awards in various Olympiads at the International level.

I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Jacobs University (Bremen, Germany). During my undergraduate studies I participated in research projects in diverse areas of mathematics at Yerevan State University, the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (UCLA), the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, and Jacobs University. At those institutions, I met many great mathematicians and brilliant personalities who helped me to feel the inspiring traditions of their unique academic environments. Their messages and their guidance played a crucial role in the formation of my personal values, mathematical tastes and the evolution of my character.

Throughout my studies at Jacobs University I received the “President’s List” award (in 2009/2010/2011) for outstanding academic performance. I have also participated in various extracurricular activities and competitions. I am the vice-president of the Investment Club at Jacobs University and head of its Mathematical Modeling in Finance group. In 2010 along with a team from my university, I participated in the International Mathematical Contest in Modeling and received the title of a “Meritorious Winner”.

My current mathematical interests are broad and include Mathematical Modeling, Dynamical Systems, Optimization Theory, Stochastic Processes, Financial Mathematics, Numerical Analysis and PDEs. Besides, the concept of modeling evolution has been and still is one of my strongest passions. I went through a challenging yet very interesting path, acquiring experience in pure and applied mathematics to the extent that today I feel confident and enthusiastic about the choice of my future career. All of this grew into a strong determination to devote my post-graduate years to doing a Master's and later a PhD degree in applied mathematics. In that respect, I have been admitted to graduate school programs at University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Cornell University etc.

Apart from mathematics, I am interested in short films, modern art, contemporary philosophy and psychology. I believe that Armenia, as a country with scarce natural resources should develop itself by becoming a right-brain economy and innovating.

“You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.”
