Harvard Business School Graduate and "Luys" scholar Samson Avetyan met a group of Armenian students this summer in the "Lovers Park". His wife Liana Sarkissova, acupuncturist and herbal therapist accompanied him. Samson’s talk focused on understanding the requirements and preparation needed to be ready for the admission process when applying to foreign universities.
The meeting was initiated by a group of students who had previously attended the English classes organized by "Luys" during the spring of 2010. When the summer brake came they all decided to continue meeting and working independently. The group has several committed core members-psychologist Mariam Dilbandyan, YSU IR student Mher Hakobyan, linguist Diana Nazaryan and master student in Turkish studies, Arpy Atabekyan.
"People in Armenia are not aware of how much information they should pay attention to whenapplying to world leading universities. Attending the Luys seminars helped me understand the process I need to go through in order to increase my chances to get admitted. Samson presented, in a clear and friendly manner, on how to write motivation letters or statement of objectives; the most essential part of the university application process", - Mariam Dilbandyan stated with enthusiasm.
Samson noted that young people in Armenia seem to have a strong sense of purpose and yarn for high achievements. "Students are more or less informed but have far-reaching goals. It was quite interesting for me to get to know what kind of youth we have in Armenia nowadays, how they think and why they want to study abroad."
Samson still worried that too many Armenian students doubt their success in getting admitted to foreign universities, some even think that it may be impossible. All they need is simply to know and understand what steps to take when applying to foreign universities. "I will help them as much as I can", -asserted the Harvard graduate.
According to Samson it would help if the youth in Armenia was given a chance to study abroad for short terms, this will allow them to get acquainted with the different types of educational system and cultures that exist.
This meeting was particularly productive for David Hakobyan, as a future student in Switzerland. Samson was able to give him a very detailed set of information and advice that are not available via Internet.
Samson met the Armenian students not only as a former graduate student equipped with a high level of education, but also as a fully established professional in Armenia. He inspired the attendees to have confidence in their strength.
Participant Diana Nazaryan was inspired by Samson and his wife Liana. "I was especially delighted to find out that after growing and being educated in foreign countries, they have moved and established themselves in Armenia".
