"You must be careful to chose your dreams, they always come true! "

Lilit Petrosyan, a Luys Young Expert and Mentor assures us that every initiative will have its success; you only need to prepare for it.

The seminar offered by Lilit Petrosyan was aimed at helping students understand the process of applying to Higher Education and in particular to the World’s Leading Universities. She shared her experience trying to help students avoid the hardship she went through and that many go through when applying to the universities of their choice.

Lilit asked each of the prospective applicants to clarify their goals and explain where they planned to apply and why. Lilit clarified the differences and perspectives between the Masters and Doctoral Degree programs.

She then went into a detailed exploration of universities and their programs (information on university rankings, universities web sites, contacting university professors, students and alumni). The following step was focusing on the application process itself. Lilit emphasized how important it was for the applicant to do everything on time and respect deadlines.

In addition to submitting the required paperwork, the student needs to introduce himself/herself in the best light possible. He/she has to describe a story about his/her triumphs, persistence, diligence, or ability to be a leader and team player. Letters of recommendation also play a very important role. They have to describe the applicant in a very strong and detailed manner. Lilit Petrosyan advised the students to discuss with the person writing their recommendation, in order to understand what may be important for the university to know about the applicant. Lilit said: it sometimes helps to have a couple of recommendation letters written by well-known people.

Lilit supported each piece of advice she gave with concrete examples drawn from her own experience. Participants talked about the second biggest difficulty after being admitted, funding. This was not anything new for Lilit: she had an admission offer from Harvard on 3 consecutive years but no funding. She finally received a scholarship the 3rd time she applied. Although she thinks that this experience helped her get strong, and work hard at making her dreams come true.

One of the participants, Armen Melkonyan said: "For students with no experience in the process of admissions to foreign universities, it is really important to get information directly from experienced people".

Since so many asked to take part in Lilit Petrosyan’s seminar, it was decided that Luys would hold another session: "The topic and the material will remain the same, only the jokes will be different".
