Nerses Aramyan: 4th year undergrad student at MIT (view bio here)
In January 2010 during the University winter break period, Nerses Aramyan came from the US to Armenia. He took this opportunity to offer two seminars on the subject of "Algebraic Topology". The seminars were held at the Yerevan State University (YSU) and were addressed to students from the departments of Physics, Mathematics and Mechanics. Nerses came from MIT, very well prepared with all the necessary course material
needed to teach and share what he had learned.
The seminars focused on the concept of "Fundamental Group" within the topic of "Algebraic Topology". The participants were Bachelor, Master and PhD students. The format of the seminar was non-formal. It created a very engaging, active and productive environment. Participants were invited to ask as many questions as they wished, interrupt when they thought it was needed, and think along with Nerses Aramyan.
A 4th year undergraduate student of Physics at YSU, Arman Margaryan was present at the seminar, he observed that a few among the senior students already had some knowledge about the topic. They gave valuable support in explaining and understanding the tasks that the group was assigned. This was a great opportunity for them too, it refreshed and updated their knowledge. But for most of the students, this was a completely new subject to learn, and in a completely new teaching format, it made the seminars interesting, lively and challenging.
The topic that Nerses decided to present is commonly addressed in other countries. Mr. Arman Margaryan said. – "Very few people in Armenia if any study this aspect of Mathematics". According to Arman, the reason may be that Armenia does not count many experts in the field of "Algebraic Topology". The seminars offered by Nerses Aramyan are an excellent introduction to the field of Mathematics and would be very helpful to students who applying to foreign universities.

Arman Margaryan is a 4th year undergraduate student at the Department of Physics, Yerevan State University. He studies quantum mechanics. His research is focusing on "Scattering amplitudes of 2-channel scattering on 3dimentional potential field".
Arman has a passion for Mathematics. He accepted to be a Teaching Assistant to Nerses Aramyan and participate in the "LUYS" Summer University Programs. This marks the beginning of the Luys Mentor Programs, when a Luys scholar is mentoring a younger student in Armenia.
