Lara Markarian

Lara Markarian was born in Southern California in May 1991 to parents Armenouhie and Avedis Markarian from Beirut, Lebanon. She grew up in Pasadena, California and attended Polytechnic School where she was an active member of various sports teams, student groups, and leadership programs. Outside of school, Lara participated in A.G.B.U. scouting and sports teams starting from the age of seven.

After graduating from high school in 2009, Lara went on to get her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. where she studied International Politics with a concentration in International Law, Norms, and Institutions. At Georgetown, Lara was the president of Delta Phi Epsilon (professional Foreign Service sorority), the president of the Armenian Students Association, an Admissions Tour Guide and a peer mentor. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Foreign Service in May 2013, graduating cum laude. In addition to this distinction, she was awarded the Justice and Peace studies department award for her academic excellence, commitment to social justice, and for her thesis titled “Community Healing After Genocide: Halting the Transmission of Trauma in the Armenian Community a Hundred Years Later.”

Since graduation, Lara has been working at Citigroup as a financial analyst. She first started in the analyst program for Citi in the NY headquarters office and has since moved to San Francisco, CA. In August 2016, she will be heading back to school to earn her Juris Doctor at UC Berkeley School of Law.
