Scholarship

The Luys Scholarship Program (LSP) is one of the two main programs of the Luys Foundation. It ensures that Armenia thrives and creates a stronger presence in a knowledge-based global economy, being on an equal footing with the leading nations.

Luys grants scholarships to Armenian students worldwide to study at the world`s top universities.

Whilst studying, Luys Scholars apply their acquired skills and knowledge with their direct participation in designing the Luys Develop Armenia Program (DAP).


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria



In order to be eligible for a Luys Scholarship, the applicant must:
  1. Be Armenian, Citizen of the Republic of Armenia and/or of Armenian descent.
  2. Be admitted to a full-time degree-granting academic program (Bachelor, Master, PhD) at one of the Luys recognized universities.
  3. Be between the ages of 18 and 40 at the time of application.

Applicants will be asked to provide proof of identity or that he/she is a direct descendent of Armenian immigrants. Please submit documents such as birth certificates or baptism certificates, or naturalization documents that state the country of origin and nationality.

The student cannot apply if he/she has only a conditional offer from the university.

Students are required to be full-time students for the duration of their degree programs. Deferment of a scholarship is not allowed.

The student can apply for the Luys Scholarship only after applying first to their university internal students aid office for a scholarship by their chosen university. The financial application has to be up-dated and presented along with the current year academic program application when submitting the request for a scholarship with the Luys Foundation. A student may not present to the Luys foundation an old submission.

Student cannot apply to Luys twice for the same level of academic degree. For example, one cannot apply for a second masters degree etc.

You will receive support only for one degree from Luys. For a second support by Luys to move to the next level of degree (from an undergrad to masters or masters to PhD), you will be on a waiting list and awarded only if there is availability among the 10 openings per university.

Every year, the Luys online Scholarship Application starts on April 1st and closes on July 15th. Late or incomplete applications will disqualify the submission.

The first 10 people applying with a full application file that shows an unconditional offer from one of the universities listed by Luys for the up-coming academic year will be eligible for a Luys Scholarship.



Luys Recognized Universities (LRU):



The LRU list is determined according to the US News and World Report, which annually ranks the world`s 400 best universities. Currently, the Luys recognized universities iist includes the top 10 universities as per the US News and World Report annual ranking.



Required documents for submission


  1. Copy of a valid passport
  2. Unconditional Admission Letter from the University
  3. Copy of your Application for a university scholarship to the University Finance/Admission’s Office
  4. Copy of the Statement of Purpose sent to the University
  5. Your Motivation letter to Luys, which might be selected to go online (How do you imagine your future and your contribution to the Armenian World?)
  6. Armenian Bio
  7. English Bio
  8. 3x4 portrait picture


Duties


The Luys Foundation is expecting students to make an effective contribution to the world, and encourages civil participation for Armenia. The Luys Foundation program expects all scholars to play an influential part in the betterment of society. This does not necessarily presuppose a career in the public sector, but lays a foundation for its scholars to be intellectually and morally capable of leadership in their chosen field, as well as a proud Ambassador of the Armenian culture anywhere in the world.

Applicants will be required to show integrity of character, interest in and respect for others, the ability to lead, and an ambition to contribute to society. They will be asked to:

  1. Stay Connected at all times. Participate in on-line meetings with Luys Yerevan.
  2. Participate and propose activities for the Luys Program: "Develop Armenia".
  3. Share your knowledge and passion. Run a seminar when in Armenia.
  4. Become a mentor to a younger students in Armenia.
  5. Learn Armenian and about the Armenian culture while attending Luys Programs.
  6. Contribute your academic publicationsto be published by Luys.
  7. Host Luys students who may visit you on your university campus.
  8. Provide quarterly progress reports, observations and suggestions.
  9. Join or create an Armenian Student Association or a Luys Network within the university where you are studying.
  10. Be a Luys Ambassador and an Ambassador of Armenian Culture wherever you are.
