Application Process for Scholarship Grants for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies
Conditions of Eligibility
Applicants must be Armenian, Citizen of Armenia or of Armenian descent
Students applying to the Luys Foundation must be Armenian, Citizen of Armenia or of Armenian descent. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of identity or that he/she is a direct descendent of Armenian immigrants. Please submit documents such as birth certificates or baptism certificates, or naturalization documents that state the country of origin and nationality.
Age Requirement:
An applicant, by April 1, 2010, must be at least 18 years old, but no more than 40.
Duties
The Luys Foundation is expecting students to make an effective contribution to the world, and encourages civil participation for Armenia. The Luys Foundation program expects all scholars to play an influential part in the betterment of society. This does not necessarily presuppose a career in the public sector, but lays a foundation for its scholars to be intellectually and morally capable of leadership in their chosen field, as well as a proud Ambassador of the Armenian culture anywhere in the world.
Applicants will be required to show integrity of character, interest in and respect for others, the ability to lead, and an ambition to contribute to society. They will be asked to:
1. Participate in bi-monthly on-line meetings with leaders of the Armenian government and the Luys Foundation;
2. Actively participate in a 6 week-program at the Luys Develop Armenia Program for summer and winter.
3. Teach one class of their choice on a topic that he/she has a passion for and wish to share with other fellow students both from abroad and from Armenia.
4. Become a mentor for a high school student in Armenia.
5. Learn Armenian and about the Armenian culture while attending the Luys Develop Armenia Program for summer and winter.
6. Contribute academic publications, such as copies of master or doctoral theses, to the online Luys Magazine and Resource Center, and agree to the translation of important works into the Armenian language to benefit students in Armenia.
7. Host other Luys students who may wish to visit the participant’s university and learn about the programs it offers.
8. Provide quarterly progress reports, observations, suggestions to the Luys resource center in Armenia. Collaboration with other Luys Fellows is highly encouraged.
9. Join or create (if none already exists), an Armenian Student Association or Luys Network within the University where the participant is studying.
10. Give presentations about the Luys Program abroad. Luys will cover the cost for one travel per year for the student to present at a major conference. The student will make mention of his/her status as an undergraduate or graduate of the university and as a Luys Scholar as well. This information may spread and offer an opportunity to other potential Armenian students.
