Luys Internship Program 2017:
Discovering Modern Work Environment

A new workplace is like a new “family,” where one learns, displays, strengthens, and develops. “Luys” is a family where interns are not only able to partake in the innovative work-style, become acquainted with office etiquette, and develop administrative skills, but are also able to acquire a unique perspective by engaging in stimulating discussions with experienced Luys members.

When we, the interns, tried to describe Luys in one word out loud, our utterances were mainly along the lines of “unity, experience, motivation, and positive professionalism.”

Between January 2017 and May 2017, Luys hosted its new group of interns comprised of Armenian youth from all over the country. The interns were given the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in the workplace by working in the foundation’s information center and by acquiring vital knowledge and skills necessary for the modern workplace.

Like at the start of every new job, we came to “Luys” with expectations, interests, and lots of energy. Although all of our expectations had different formulations, the core idea was to discover and mold ourselves in a real working environment. Even the name of the foundation was inspiring for us. We believed “Luys” would “enlighten” and expand our expectations, which it ultimately did.

During these four months, we grew as individuals and discovered concrete paths for reaching our goals, which in turn gave us an opportunity to recognize our own abilities and potential. It was not a coincidence, that when when we tried to describe Luys in one word, the answers we came up with were “unity, experience, motivation, and positive professionalism.” “Luys” provided a dynamic and comprehensive work environment for us. It gave us the opportunity to work alongside experienced “Luys” team members, to learn from them as well as each other, and to gain useful skills that will help us establish ourselves in this innovative world. “Luys” gave us a chance to transition from the learning stage of our lives to the actualization of our knowledge.

“Luys” provided a dynamic and comprehensive work environment. It gave us the opportunity to work alongside experienced “Luys” team members, to learn from them as well as each other, and to gain useful skills that will help us establish ourselves in this innovative, modern world. “Luys” gave us a chance to transition from the learning stage of our lives to the actualization of our knowledge.

During the internship, we also conducted book discussions, which significantly contributed to our personal development. These discussions had a unique format: each one of the readers chose three ideas that he or she found most important from the book at the center of discussion and then presented those ideas. This gave everyone a chance to learn by listening to others in addition to making personal discoveries. We also held discussions with our team members that served to further enhance our personal development. We even played interesting games and created a powerful team spirit. The “Luys” team members encouraged us to think about the importance of our collective work and the role we play in helping people come together to combine their efforts for the common good.

At the end of the four-month internship, we summarized the results of the work we accomplished and welcomed the new group of interns. As an already experienced group of interns, we shared our thoughts and gave advice to our newcomers by encouraging them to be an indivisible part of “Luys” and to take on as much responsibility as possible in four months to come. Afterwards, some of the “graduating” interns talked about the difficulties they had experienced as well as their many achievements. They were able to inspire and impart invaluable knowledge upon our new students.
