Luys Mentorship Program to Enhance the Intellectual Capital
Mentor Program for Luys Undergraduate and Graduate Students
When students attempt to tackle demanding academic problems, they often seek support from more experienced and knowledgeable people to think with and learn with. The Luys mentoring program links students with caring experts in all fields of academia to assist students in maintaining their academic performance while reducing their level of anxiety.
Mentor support groups and organized monthly mentor meetings are important sources of support for mentors. Even excellent, highly skilled teachers will need preparation and on-going support as they take on the role of a mentor. Mentor preparation programs will include learning theory, teacher development, conferencing skills, coaching techniques, reflective practice and establishing effective communication with students.
Peer-to-Peer Mentoring between Luys Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Peer programs encourage Luys Students to know each other. They empower students to help each other and themselves. Students can share information on academic coping skills such as how to approach assignments, how to talk to professors, how to use technology, and how to select a major field of study. They can also share their passion for a subject matter and their experiences.
Luys Students Providing Peer Mentoring for High School Students in Armenia
The peer-to-peer mentoring program matches Luys college and graduate students from all corners of the world with high school students in Armenia. In these one-on-one relationships Luys undergraduate and graduate students provide and serve as role models for younger people who need advice and support. These youth face challenges not only with academic work but also with social issues. Older students can help the young students stay on track and learn to exercise a vision, apply themselves to hard work and help them to create the skills and the vision necessary for achieving higher goals and ambitions.
The Luys Undergraduate and Graduate Students will be required to teach a course of their choice for High School Students during the summer. These classes will be part of the Luys Summer University Program. This will be an opportunity to share passion for a subject matter and teach it in the most effective way. Passion is contagious and will bear many fruits both for novice teachers and the young learners.
